Source: The obituary is from a collection by Fauniel Hershberger, saved the 1950's, 60's and 70's. She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana.  The collection is now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.

David E. Kern, age 85, of Covington, died at 4:55 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, at the Rudisill Nursing Home. He had been a patient there five weeks following a four-year illness. He was born June 27, 1876, in Covington, a son of John and Therese Schnider Kern. On April 14, 1902 he was married to Anna VanHook, who survives. Mr. Kern had been a home decorator and painter. He was a member of the Fifth Street Church of Christ, where he organized the Boy Rangers. Survivors include his wife; and three cousins. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the Hegg Funeral Home. The Rev. E. E. McConnell officiated. Burial was in Lower Mound Cemetery.  --- typed by Barbara B
